Del Krieser will be attending this years Burning Man Leadership Summit, happening next weekend in San Francisco.

This event is for Regional Contacts, and selected community leaders. It historically attracts 100+ people from around the globe.

Lectures, workshops, and real case scenarios are presented by the Burning Man staff, Burners without Boarders, Black Rock Arts Foundation, producers of events like Flipside, PDF, and other community leaders.

Del will be representing Boulder, greater Colorado, and BLAST^ at the 3 day conference. BLAST^ will be donating $100 to help defray his travel expenses. We hope Del comes back energized with new ideas for community projects and building community.

If you have questions or ideas you would like Del to take with him, or questions and ideas in general for Boulder Burners, please use the BoulderBurns@yahoogroups.com discussion list to share your ideas.

BLAST^ Volunteers at Boulder Shelter for the Homeless

On November 30th, BLAST^ and some HappyThursday Cruisers teamed up to cook dinner for the homeless. We were one of the largest and most motivated groups, so we also helped the kitchen manager clean and reorganize the kitchen.

Del is the volunteer lead at Boulder Shelter for the Homeless every Saturday night. Great work, Del! Whenever there is a 5th Saturday or Sunday in a month, Del needs extra helpers to cook & serve those in need.

When you see folks on the street, it's tempting to give them cash. However, the most effective and reliable way to help the homeless is to support organizations like the Boulder Shelter through donations and volunteering.

Green Winter Gift Boxes

BLAST^ distributed 8 "Green Winter" holiday gift boxes in a North Boulder trailer park near Valmont & 30th.

The boxes had 5 compact fluorescent (CFL) light bulbs, 10 feet of door or window weather stripping, and a low flow shower head. Also included was the handout 60 Ways to Save Money and Energy from Xcel Energy, and a personalized gift card from BLAST^.

The folks that received the gift boxes were extremely thankful and it really seemed to light up their holidays. Thank you to everyone who helped with the Green Winter project!

This project was made possible by your donations.

BLAST^ is responding to a local disaster. Last Saturday night, a major fire engulfed a local apartment building near Arapahoe and 55th. The building was occupied by Sudanese refugees and other elderly, disabled, or low-income residents.

In response, BLAST^ is donating:

$100 to Thistle Community Housing (a 501c(3) non-profit) for their emergency housing relief fund.

$100 to Lost Girls of Sudan (another tax-deductible non-profit) to empower them to help the critically burned refugees, and to help more Sudanese women.

DONATIONS NEEDED

Since in all likelihood nobody had renters insurance, several BLAST^ members are also individually donating household goods, and we'd like to encourage you to do the same. Here's what they need and where to bring it:

They need small kitchen appliances such as microwaves, blenders, & the like.

Also a need for new bedding, blankets, towels.

If anyone has these items to donate here is the location:
St Andrews Presbyterian Church
3700 Baseline, Boulder
M-F, 8am-4pm

They do NOT need clothes, they have lots of clothes dropped off already.

Donations Contact at Thistle: sandre@thistlehousing.org

Frankenbike Park Bench Unveiled!

Tonight BLAST^ unveiled the completed Frankenbike Park Bench! The occasion was to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of the BurnWorks (check out their blog!).

During final phase, we morphed the Frankenbike into a beautiful, functional park bench. We welded on bench supports, salvaged, tapered, and varnished some bench planks. Started with a base coat of BurnWorks signature flat black, proceeded with a series of psychedelic neon blacklight splattercoats, and sealed it up with a couple of clear coats. Durable outdoor galvanized bolts bearing the initials 'BRC'.

The top 3 wheels are connected by bike chains to the central crank, making the Frankenbike fun, interactive, and useful at the same time. Here they are in motion:

BLAST^ is seeking a loving home for this sculpture, where it will be played with, sat upon, and appreciated! Please contact Steve Jones (pokneetail at gmail dot com) if you're interested!

Congrats to all the artists, and special thanks to BurnWorks for the work space, hands-on experience with power tools, and welding lessons!
